Place to drink in Southern California?

Question

Do you guys know any good public places in the suburbs that aren't busy so that my friends and I can have a good place to enjoy ourselves without the company of others?

We just don't want to embarrass ourselves.

Southern California is a pretty big place so it would help to be more specific.  Orange County?  South bay?  Westside?

If you're looking for the suburbs, I'm guessing that you're looking for something a little more laid back (opposite of Hollywood).  If so, I'd suggest checking out the bars in Hermosa Beach or Manhattan Beach.  Hermosa has a ton of bars right on pier.  I prefer Hennesey's for the laid back atmosphere.
