Place to rest for the unemployed/homeless?

Question

Say you're near to declare bankruptcy. You sold you're apartment, you have no one to go to. And you're living in the streets of a Big urban city.

Other than the church. Where do you go for support. I remember watching "The pursuit To happiness" (movie starring : will smith )

And They ended up going broke that they had to go to this shelter.

Do you know what those are called?

Like a support place for the unemployed so they can stay there for the night/day?

you sold your apartment? you might rest in a place with three hots and a cot for awhile once your land lord gets ahold of you and prosecutes for stolen property .
