  1. If you don't have a box that opens to the outside on the driver's side and locks, then it goes inside the cab behind the driver seat

  2. under the seat

  3. I have driven all makes and models of tractors over the last 30 years and have seen the fire extinguishers mounted in the cab between the door opening and the seat, to the back wall of the cab in the corner and on the floor between the seats.  I have also had it mounted inside the sidebox of the sleeper.

As long as it is mounted in a rack to secure it and is readily accessible, I don't think it matters where it's location is.  Just make sure it is secured in the vehicle, is fully charged (in the green) and has a seal and date tag as to when it's last inspection took place.  If it's just floating around loose in the cab or sidebox, they will cite you for it.

    I hope this helps....

  4. Under drivers seat always, easy access.

  5. §393.95   (a)(3) Visual Indicators. The fire extinguisher must be designed, constructed, and maintained to permit visual determination of whether it is fully charged.

(a)(4) Condition, location, and mounting. The fire extinguisher(s) must be filled and located so that it is readily accessible for use. The extinguisher(s) must be securely mounted to prevent sliding, rolling, or vertical movement relative to the motor vehicle.

There you go,  right from the FMCSA website.   Standard procedure is to mount between seat and door on left side,  or to mount in the sidebox.   If the sidebox is chosen,  a decal on the door is encouraged.

  6. Just has to be visible and securely fastened.  The location should be labeled on the outside.  Don't put it under a seat, it will get crushed.

  7. Suggest you place it in a location that you can reach from the drivers seat. This will give to the ability to extinguish a fire, even if you become trapped in your seat.  This is the reasoning behind the DOT guideline...

  8. jason is correct, under driver seat!

  9. Under the driver's seat according to the D.O.T.

  10. You can keep it next to the driver seat as long as it is SECURED and there is a label on the door stating fire extinguisher INSIDE. If it's not secured or the bracket is missing they will fine you for it or at least give a repair violation.

You can also keep it in the side box with the rest of your Emergency equipment as long as it states FIRE EXTINGUISHER INSIDE on the side door. These labels have to be visual and in proper lettering height.

  11. I drive Fords and Internationals all day, the fire extinguishers  are on the floor of the tractors to the left of the drivers seat so you can reach it when you open the drivers door. Some sleepers have them mounted outside the cab for easier reach.
