Placere likely to thrive in Cross Charity Handicap
The Richard Brabazon-trained chestnut filly, Placere, looks to be in the most favourable position to claim the ace title of the Cross Charity Handicap that will be held at Leopardstown on Thursday, July 5. The high-stakes contest over 1 mile and 4 furlongs
is set to start at 8:30 (GMT).
Tracking the prize cheque worth €5,520, the four-year-old novice runner will have to face 23 rivals including some big names like Filatore and Lethal Weapon. Thus, success is going to be a hard nut to crack for the filly who started her career in September
2011.
The talented daughter of Noverre out of Puppet Play has never sprinted on the good to soft track so far, but the way she performed in her last start is sufficient to assume that she can easily unleash a big show at Leopardstown.
On June 22, 2012 at Limerick racecourse, the Dr F. D. McAuley-bred novice runner marvellously broke her maiden by finishing first in the Greenmount Apprentice Handicap over 1 mile and 3 ½ furlongs. This was a soft ground where the 9-4 hot favourite filly
ran to her best.
Earlier in her 6-race career, the momentous sprinter gained 4th position in the Fairyhouse Summer Series Handicap over 1 mile and 4 furlongs on June 6.
Despite having all the potential and skills to win, Placere is going to commit a mistake by running under Conor Hoban instead of David Parkes who nicely drove her to win in the last start. Hoban’s past experiences with the filly had not been pleasant.
On her way towards the finish line, Placere will have to face plenty of resistance from Filatore who is keen to break his maiden in the Cross Charity Handicap.
The P. D. Deegan-trained chestnut gelding elegantly finished as a runner-up in his last start entitled as Follow Leopardstown On Facebook Handicap on June 14, 2012. Prior to this, he had gained a third in Chinese Irish Cultural Academy Handicap at Curragh
on June 10.
In this situation, a tough tug of war is expected between Placere and Filatore with the latter being stronger. Let us see who turns the tables. Good luck to both the runners.
