Places in QLD that are AFFORDABLE & worth visiting!?

Question

Preferrably somewhere close to the train station (the one that goes intestate...).

I am heading up there in a few weeks and really want to see a few things before I leave. Anyone have any decent priced things to do (with a few friends)? We're students.. so cost is kinda a big thing!

Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast is probably the cheapest region in the Gold Coast/Brisbane/Sunshine Coast region.

Great beaches and good shopping.

Go across to Southbank - there's no entrance fee and it's really worth seeing.

Not free, but very cheap is a round trip CityCat ride on the Brisbane River. It travels upstream as far as the University of Queensland and downstream past the city to the very wide Hamilton Reach and is well worth doing. Southbank is one of the stops along the way. From Roma Street Station, walk to the river which is a block or two to the south, turn left and follow the river along the bike path to the CityCat pontoon - it's only a few hundred metres downstream. New Farm Park is another stop along the way - walk across the park and see the huge Moreton Bay figs with the kids playground built up into the trees. Lots of very big kids love it too. Take lunch to eat in the park or at Southbank or you can buy food at either.

Hello. I am in Hervey-Bay. I find it nice and friendly. You can get a really nice holiday unit for $350 a week and they are beautiful. There are some nice beaches here as well that go for about 15kms. There is some beautiful parks and great shopping. There is a heap of free things to do so that is why when i want to go away i seem to go to a holiday place here as it is cheap and very nice units and also free things to do all the time.
