Places in Sydney?

I won't be moving there for around 1 and a half years yet but i plan on visiting certain areas first. Now as for things i like,i like all types of restaurants,museums,shops/malls,beaches,... etc etc.I've narrowed it down to a few places and just wanted some opinions on these places and if you have any other's worth checking out. Prices and Expenses not a problem,i don't mind paying out extra for better quality seeing as i'll be renting to begin with,i don't believe in going for something because it's the cheapest lol i want something good for my money. The places are:

Darlington Harbour

Pyrmont

Palm Beach

Surry Hills.

There were alot more and i may consider more i just wanted to know if anyone has been to or lived in these places or could recommend any,i want to be pretty close to the CBD as long as it's not roughly more than 45-60mins max away.

I know it's a while before i move i just wanted to get a heads up.

Thanks :D

All thoughts welcome :)

  1. I would look into Paddington. It's a pretty, quirky, historical neighborhood with lots of interesting stores & cafes. They have a cafe where everything on the menu has chocolate in it that's so awesome. Ppl there are young, well-off & cool, and it's not too far from most places in Sydney, and some museums are pretty close by. There's a great park there, too.

Palm Beach is beautiful. I think it's where they shoot "Home and Away."

Darling Harbor is pretty, but it's kind of boring.

I'm not sure about the other neighborhoods. You could probably ask someone on tripadvisor.com on the Australia forum & they'd be able to give you tips.

    Have fun! : )

  2. Newtown is groovy and has heaps of good restaurants also very close to the city.

north shore - neutral bay cremorne is relaxed and leafy and a short ferry trip away from the city.

if you are here in summer then you'll want to be going to the beaches whilst Bondi and Manly are good beaches with lot's of shops etc.. I'd recommend checking out the northern beaches such as curl curl and mona vale

  3. Darling Harbour is reallly expensive. Palm Beach would be a nicer place to live and not as fast paced and hectic.
