I am going to New Orleans next month and am wanting to know where is a good place to go and get a muffaletta. I have heard about Central Grocery...but that sounds like it has become a tourist trap. I want a good, authentic muffaletta......any ideas?

  1. Well go to a italian deli that does it or go on the food network and check out Rachel Ray Tasty travel I think she went to new orleans or just google

  2. Central Grocery.  You can't get any more authentic than that.

Order your sandwich, grab something to drink and go sit outside and people watch.

That was one of the best lunches I had on my last visit.

  3. Central Grocery and Quarter Masters.

  4. Central Grocery is the place where the locals go...not so much the tourists.  It's not a really nice, upscale looking place, so get the sandwich to go and eat it elsewhere.  Delicious, however!

  5. i've had muffaletta's all over the french quarter and i still haven't been to central grocery because the lines are too long or i'm too late!  so i would love to try one there for comparison!  but i have had them at different spots around jackson square, across street from french market and bourbon street and i haven't had a bad one yet!  so just get out there and look at menus and talk to people and you won't go wrong!

    have fun.

  6. Central Grocery is THE place to get a muffaletta regardless if you are a tourist or a local...they are simply the best.  Walk to the back & place your order...take it & enjoy out in Jackson Park or down by the Mississippi River. Don't forget to take extra olive salad home because you will be addicted after the first bite! Have fun!!!!!

  7. Go to Muffaletta's.  They have the best.

  8. Central grocery in the Quarter - it's not really a trap, more of a dive. Get your sandwich to go and find a place out on Jackson Square

  9. Central Grocery is the original place to get a muffaletta and is visit by locals and also by many visitors due to its history. But its still a great place to go and have a muffaletta.

other than them I would suggest

Franks, it is right next door and I think are actually better than central grocery.
