  1. here

  2. i work around the strand and Whitehall area of London, i have always fancied this pizzeria on Whitehall, which is 1 minute from the Strand, looks really nice, much more "Italian" looking than any over pizzeria i have ever seen,

when you leave Charing Cross BR Station, turn left towards Trafalgar Square, then take your second left down Whitehall, its about 50 yards further down on the left hand side (stands out as it has loads of tasty cakes in the window!)

  3. I like the Coffe place in Trafalgar Square in the basement of St Martin Church very nice home made food.

  4. I assume you mean "The Strand" in London.

Gordon's Wine Bar; London's oldest wine bar is a few hundred yards from The Strand next to Charing Cross rail station.  House wine costs a very reasonable £11.20 and there is a choice of about 20 red and white French and New World wines for about £12 / bottle. You have the choice of eating in the vaulted interior or, if weather permits, outside on the terrace. The menu changes daily and is displayed on a blackboard, represents some of the best value for money in London. Salads cost about £6 and the choice includes roast beef, gammon, smoked and poached salmon. For the same price one can enjoy onion quiche, pasties, oven baked garlic mushroom, and aubergine with mozzarella and tomato all with salad.

Not as cheap is "Rules", London's oldest restaurant. One block north of The Strand

  5. Personally, I wouldn't recommend Gordon's to eat. It's a fantastic, atmospheric drinking dive, but it's always packed and the food is pretty basic - just something to soak up the wine. Nowhere on the Strand is particularly cheap, but Paradiso e Inferno is a REALLY old-fashioned (in a nice way) Italian place that's been in business for 40 years or more. The pasta is plentiful and the service is charming and the food, well, it's fine without setting the world alight, if you know what I mean!

If you can walk a couple of streets up from the Strand (less than 5 mins) why not try Joe Allen's? You can eat surprisingly reasonably there, it's got a great atmosphere, it's open really late and is frequented by actors (sometimes famous ones!) after the theatres close, and it's a real London institution.

  6. Located just off The Strand (at the Charing Cross end) is a really lively and cheap Mexican restaurant called Wahaca.

Highly recommended, and more info about it here:
