I might be going to New York with the family. What are a few sightseeing places to see? Mainly in Manhattan.

  1. here are some suggestions and tips from our personal experience:

we went to NY for a week and stayed at the Hilton Embassy Suites.

    we had a blast!!!

there's a book called Lonely Planet (NYC)

it is a really really helpful book for tourists like us because it includes walking tours, etc, and places to eat.

you should visit Serendipity for dessert :)

by the way, instead of waiting for hours in line to get to the statue of liberty, you may opt to have the NY waterway tour instead. This way, you will save enough time to tour other parts of the city :)

there's also the famous BULL at the financial district :)

you should also try the yummiest Pizza Margherita at  'Lil Frankie  in East Village ^,^

if you have more time, try walking the stretch of Brooklyn Bridge.

this serves as an exercise too.. hihihi

also, do visit Saint Patricks's Cathedral at 5th avenue.

    don't miss to go inside.

    it's wonderful!!!

we also went to Top of the Rock instead of the Empire State Building to avoid the long line hihihi because we were afraid we won't have enough time to see other parts of NYC :)

for shopping, you may want to visit Century 21, just across the former WTC.

you should have lunch/brunch at Cafe lalo!!! or at Sarabeth's :)

we chose Cafe Lalo hihihi because of the ambiance and because it's famous.

To relax, try having a picnic at Central Park.

we chose to eat at the top of one huge rock there to have e good view of the whole central park :)

then, we went to MET (entrance is by donation only, you don't have to give 20 USD)

if you're a techie like my friends, you may want to visit the MAC store. it is now a tourist spot because of its unique architecture :p

    DON'T MISS eating at PARADOU!!!

    it's a MUST!!!

    trust me on this!

you also gotta watch a broadway show! definitely!

    there's WICKED and SPAMALOT :)

  2. try double decker tour buses and attractions http://www.citysightsny.com/

  3. Here are some of the better places, arranged by area to save time travelling.

Lower Manhattan:  World Trade Center site; stock exchange, South Street Seaport; boat to Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty (one ticket for both, get off at each and spend as long as you want, take a later boat onward--start early as VERY long lines form).

Midtown:  United Nations; Empire State Building; Times Square (many good restaurants on side streets); Rockefeller Center; Fifth Avenue from 50 to 58 Street for window shopping; FAO Schwartz (humongous toy store with an ice cream parlor).

Uptown:  Central Park and zoo; Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Natural History/Rose Space Center

Way Uptown:  Museum of the American Indian; The Cloisters (most beautiful spot in NYC); Dyckman House Museum (British Army HQ in the Revolution).

But let's explore outside Manhattan, which is just one-fifth of NYC:

Bronx:  Go to Yankee Stadium and boo George Steinbrenner; Bronx Zoo; Bronx Botanical Gardens

Brooklyn:  Coney Island; Aquarium; explore the many ethnic eateries along Avenue U from Ocean Avenue to 14 Street or Church Avenue from 14 Street to Bedford Avenue.

Queens:  Shea Stadium to cheer the Mets; Bowne House (a stop on the Underground Railroad); Hall of Science and the adjoining zoo with an aviary where you can walk at treetop level to see the birds.

Staten Island:  Conference House, site of the only peace conference during the Revolution (Franklin and Adams for the Americans); Marchais Tibetan Museum (the only Tibetan museum in the USA, the Dalai Lama stops in when in town); Snug Harbor

  4. There is so much to do in NY that it's impossible to fit it all in. Here are a few of the top things to do in NYC... Central Park, Empire State Building, Broadway show, Statue of Liberty. There are also a lot of ways to find discounts on great events. For instance, Broadway shows offer lottery tickets of only $25 every day, and also the TKTS booth in Times Square offers half price seats. You can also attend the taping of a show by showing up at the studio for standby tickets. Try the zagat guide for restaurant guidance. Also, since there is such an overwhelming amount of activities, the magazine Time Out NY is a great resource for events that the most native New Yorkers attend. Also, explore neighborhoods other than Midtown. Have fun!
