Hi i'm 12 years old and i am going out on thursday with my dad. The problem is my dad lives in Singapore and I don't get to see him very often - usually about once every two years so I think that it will be a bit awkward. I thought about going to the cinema but think it would be a waste of a good opportunity to talk and do something together. Could anyone help me and advise me on a really good place to go out for the day near leeds or a place that we can reach by train? Thanks.

  1. If the weather's not great, how about the National Mining Museum near Wakefield? Or the Royal Armouries on the Leeds Inner Ring Road? Roundhay Park? The Butterfly Sanctuary there may not be very exotic to your dad tho. What about Xscape near Castleford? Would your dad fancy the snow slope there? There is also plenty of places to eat and wander around? If he likes history, what about Temple Newsham with its manor house and gardens and farm, as well as play area and park?

Hope that helps. Good luck and have a great time. I am sure that he will enjoy whatever you plan so long as he is with you. And let him know how much effort you have put into the planning - he will really appreciate it. I know I do when my children plan something for me.

  2. York is close and beautiful. The walls and minster, the 12th century houses, national railway museum, Castle museum (brilliant), Yorvick centre, lots of nice places for lunch or place to eat a picnic (Museum Gardens). Further afield is the Yorkshire Dales the best place in Britain or Whitby on the coast is fantastic.
