Places to hang out in Northern VA?

Question

Ok, I want to go out and meet people to find a possibly date. And most people suggest the usual, go to a club or bar to go meet someone. First off, do any regular guys go to places like that alone and get dates? I doubt it and if so I'd like to hear your story. Second, I live in a quiet suburb so all the clubs and bars as far as I know are up in DC. Anyone from Fairfax county know a good place to step up on the social scene?

by the Potomac river or in Georgetown, where you can canoe, kayak, sail, shop, etc.

Patriots Cafe in Fairfax, VA, Coastal Flats in Fairfax, VA, or Ned Devine's in Herndon or Sterling... a lot of young people hang out there and a lot of times they have music.

living in the suburbs is different than the city. Fairfax has a lot of places to go but if you're looking for clubs you won't find them.

Backyard Grill on rte 50 (technically off rte 50) its close to where rte 50 meets 28 (i think its really Chantilly)

Damons is up that way too.

Coastal Flats is ok but mostly for happy hour.

Fast Eddies is fun too.

I hear your cynicism.  You might want to try joining a sports group.  I joined a Hash House Harriers running group.  No pot, but lots of fun.  A great way to meet and date.
