Places to see in Mazatlan & Nuevo Vallarta??

Question

I am going to be visiting Mazatlan & Nuevo Vallarta in late august. Does anyone know of any places that are fun to visit..nice beach places..nice food areas..nice town's..thank you

In both places you'll want to go to 'old town' and get away from the hotel zone

Nice beach- I would say spend a day on Stone Island.....large beach w/nothing but palapa resturants and beach activities. Hike to the lighthouse on El Faro early one morning and walk the malecon in the evening (I think the Olas Altas part is the best) . Definately spend some time in El Centro and especially Plazuela Machado in the evenings; lots of resturants/bars and live music. Nearby towns I would reccomend either El Quelite or Copala.
