I will be in Munich, Germany for Oktoberfest this year and will have two extra days. I wanted to know if there was any good towns to stay in besides Munich for those two days. I wanted to be close enough to be able to get back to the airport in time for my flight.

  2. You could stay in Augsburg, Ulm, Nürnberg, all of them are reachable withn 1 hour by train.

You could also make a trip to the Alps (1-2h by train).

There are many lovely places around Munich.

  3. I live in Munich and I would say it should be no problem to spend an additional two days in town.

But I understand, when you are travelling, you would like to see as many places as possible :-)

Augsburg is great for a day trip, it only takes half an hour from the main station in Munich to get to the main station in Augsburg. It's a very old town - over 2000 years. Tell me if you want to know more, I grew up there :-)

What's also nice during this time of the year is to take a train to one of the lakes around Munich. Ammersee or Chiemsee are wonderful in fall. If you like hiking, this might be ideal.

In any case: have a great trip!

  4. I would spend those two days seeing- read exploring- Munich. I lived there for two years and was still exploring- and had missed things- at the time I left. If you are driving, there are several places of interest somewhat outside Munich; it depends what you like! Dachau puts life in perspective. Although when I went it had not really begin to have visitors. Check the search engines for points of interest [obvious, right.].
