Places to stay in montreal?

not a hotel, cuz that's expensive.

doesn't have to be nice or safe, I can defend myself or even attack.

just cheap.

and somewhat close to downtown.

Also, give a balll park of how much it would cost me for 2 nights this weekend. thanks.

I have family in Montreal... prices are not as good as they once were because of the value of the dollar...

Have you tried using the internet to look at youth hostels in the area?
