  1. li 25 percent of the city speaks french as i live there. the rest speak english and even the french speakers know english so its alll goood.

  2. I wouldn't worry about the whole language issue.  If there is one person who can't help you, there will be 10 others around who will.

The 'Underground City' would probably be worth checking out.  It's underground shopping that all connects.  when my aunt from Florida came to visit, she was amazed by this.

Like everyone else is mentioning there is a six flags but i'm sure you know what that's like.  I would suggest visiting places unique to Montreal to get the full experience

Want to try the best smoked meat?  go to Schwartz's on St.Laurente street.  don't let this 'hole in the wall' fool you, there is a reason people wait in line for this place.

Check out the amazing cathedrals in old Montreal.  they are gorgeous!  you should check out all of the old Montreal but be warned, it's a major tourist trap, so save your money and eat somewhere else!

Want to go skating in the middle of July?  it's possible, an indoor skating ring Le 1000 de La Gauchetière.  you can rent skates and on saturday night it's 18+ with music and lights.

St.Joseph's Oratory is quite amazing.  Even if your not religious, the stories are amazing and the whole place is beautiful.

You can check out the Montreal Biodome.  It's actually pretty cool.   You can even go to the insectarium or the botanical gardens or even the planetarium, you can get special prices on combining all places

On st.Laurente street (between viger and Rene-levesque) there is Chinatown.  On a side street they sell these things called 'Dragon Beards'  it's a dessert you let melt in your mouth.  Delicious.

Near Guy Concordia there is this restaurant called O.Noir where you eat in complete darkness.  That's always fun!

So i think i've covered quite a bit, i just want to leave you with one last comment.  you HAVE to try a poutine while you are hear!

Have fun!  if you have any questions, you can email me

  3. You should go downtown Montreal - it's the Jazz Festival - Good Music + lots of free shows.

There is also LaRonde (6 flags amusement park).

  4. No worry about the Language.  It is nice to start the conversation in French, but to keep it going in French, if you are interested, you need to ask them, because soon after it is known that you are not a native speaker, most will turn the conversation into English.

    Try:

La Ronde (Amusement park, coaster etc.)

When you are tired, park, beach, and canals, a few hundred meters away.

    Of course, old Montreal.

Drive up the Mt. Royal.  Great view from the top.

Enjoy the puttins, Baguettes, and all the beautiful people of Montreal.  I miss it so much.
