I'm going on a day trip to France through the tunnel on Saturday with some friends. We'll have a car and we'd like to visit a couple of villages in Northern France around and about the Calais, Bolougne and Le Touque areas. Are there any picturesque places which you guys can recommend?

  1. I agree Boulogne is worth seing.

Don't miss the wondeful aquarium :

After that you can spend a couple hours in Le Touquet, it's the best beach in this area according to me. You can rent a bike or walk in the forest.

Lille is also worth seing, but to far if you stay one day.

  2. Boulogne sur Mer is worth a visit - the old town at the top of the hill, then the coast southwards from the town has great views, along with quite a few German bunkers left over from WW2.

Don't bother with Calais or Dunquerque - they're both industrial (especially the latter) and a bit of a dump.

The countryside around there is a bit flat, featureless and boring as well, so I'd stick to the coast if I were you.

  3. Try the seaside town of Wimereux it is half way between Calais and Boulougne http://www.a-taste-of-france.com/wimereu...
