  1. Boston Opportunities :)

Boston Cares organizes and leads team oriented volunteer opportunities throughout Greater Boston that have a positive impact on individuals and communities.

Both The Samaritans' 24-hour befriending service and Samariteens (our teen befriending line, staffed by teen volunteers from 3 - 9 p.m. daily) are staffed entirely by trained volunteers from two locations in Boston and Framingham.

A volunteer position allows you to make a positive contribution to your community, gain valuable work experience, explore a field you know nothing about, gain leadership experience and make connections that might lead to paid positions. You can volunteer at a local youth center or with an organization that works for a cause you care about.

Take advantage of programs that can teach you new skills. Many art, music, athletic and peer leadership programs are free or have scholarships available and some of them even offer stipends.

  2. Look up volunteers on the internet in your local area. Most governments have a website for people that wish to do volunteer work.

Most places wont take on someone under 16 years because of insurance reasons. But if you are at school you should be able to organise the work through them, and you are then covered under the schools insurance.

    Goodluck!

Ok, dont know where you are excately, but I hope this helps...

  3. I would think you could call around to nursing homes and find residents who never receive visitors (there are many many folks who never get a single call or visit from anyone).  Choose one or two residents at one facility, then go visit them once or twice a week. You can read to them, do a puzzle with them, or sing to them (even if people tell you you cannot sing, you can, and they will love the music :).

If you do this, you will be rewarded immeasurably by getting to know someone of the older generation and by giving of yourself, you will learn a valuable lesson in life.

I wish you all the best!
