Question:

Plain white kitchen council cupboards, and white tiles - not sure what colour vinyl? Please help.

Just moved in and kitchen cupboards are glossy white and so are the tiles. We were thinking of having pale green walls but not too sure. It is a large kitchen and we will have an oak table. Could anyone recommend vinyl flooring that would go?

  1. Congrats on your new home!  I'd recommend choosing your flooring first and your paint last.  (Always select the biggest, most expensive and permanent items before choosing the easily changeable ones.)

You mention "white tiles" without specifying whether they're countertop or backsplash tiles.  I'm going to presume countertop.  A product I'd highly recommend for your kitchen is Marmoleum Click.  It's healthier than vinyl, and more expensive, but you can install it yourself to save some money.  I wrote about this product in my blog this week, where you can read about its many benefits.

Marmoleum Click comes in a number of colors that you can combine in classic, contemporary or retro combinations, depending on your taste.

Just about any color or color combination flooring will work with the white-on-white look.  Pull one of the accent colors you choose to become your wall color.  It'll give you a very pulled-together look!

  2. Keep your flooring neutral & bring color in with paint & accessories.  If you're like most people, you will change color schemes a couple of years down the road, and you dont want to have to replace your flooring.  If you can afford it, put down porcelain or ceramic tiles on the floor & backsplash in travertine-looking tones to warm things up a bit.  Otherwise, use those tones in vinyl instead.  Good luck.
