I have a 3 hour flight coming up and there is no inflight entertainment! What is the best way to distract yourself on a flight? books, games, ipods? etc.

PS. I have a semi fear of flying so would like to take my mind of it!

  1. 3 hours goes by really quickly. I recommend a book and an ipod. Plus, remind yourself on the plane that you had a larger chance of crashing your car on the way to the airport than you do of crashing on the actual plane.

    Good Luck!

  2. Hey andie. Ya 3 hours isn't a long flight, you will be surprised how fast it will go! Ya a book is a really good idea as is an ipod! If that fails, just look at whats going on around you : ) People are usually very interesting and funny on planes. You will get so caught up with whats going on around you wont notice time passing. Often the people you are sitting beside are good for a chat too, even if they are strangers, lol.  Flying should be fun, just sit back and enjoy it!

  3. take a good book or magazine with you and a mp3 player. you wont have much time to be honest on a 3 hour flight as i presume you will have a meal as well, so it should pass quickly.

  4. Take some reading matter.

Most airlines provide inflight entertainment although it may not be advertised, eg

    1. How to open your plastic meal while in cramped economy seats.

    2. How to eat same with only plastic cutlery.

    3. Analysing contents of same.

  5. Read a book, listen to some music are all good ideas.

  6. Take a book, because you can concentrate on reading a book during take-off and landing, which are definitely the scariest bits of air travel. MP3 players are supposed to be switched off during take-off so you can't use them to take your mind off it when you most need it.

  7. Take a good book, your iPod and any of those hand held games you may have, I have a bit of a fear of flying too so always ask for an aisle seat that way you can look up and down the aisle as often as you like without feeling hemmed in or fretting, have a fab holiday.

  8. I like a magazine better than a book, because it has a bunch of short articles, so if I get bored with one, I can look at a different one.

Last time I tried listening to my iPod on a plane, the engine was louder than the iPod and I couldn't hear anything.  I guess if it was songs I knew then I would have been fine but I was listening to a new music podcast and couldn't hear it very well.  Of course, this depends on what type of airplane you are in (generally smaller plane = louder inside since no seats are very far away from the engines), or on a big plane it can depend on what seat you are in.

  9. I always find reading a very good book helps, something enthralling....or even a good guide book to the place you are travelling to....in this day and age I suppose an ipod is good as well.....

  10. check out your local library for a (free) selection of books on a topic that you know will divert you for ages, take or get a loan of a Nintendo DS and some games, or a dvd player + sign up to an online dvd rental place (look of 30 day free rentals on lovefilm), magazines, ipod, mini travel games you can buy in whsmith like draughts, chess, etc... ; crossword/puzzle books, eat, etc.....
