Planet ark, banned plastic bags?

planet ark thinks there is too much plastic that will cause environmental problems.

if supermarkets dont provide plastic bags when you purchase groceries and people have to provide a bag for themselves.

More bad science.I had a plastic bag caught in a tree in my yard for two years.It went through all the weather in plain sight,guess what happened to that bag? I took it out,it disgreintated in to so many pieces,was a mess getting it all up.I don't know why you people can't do a simple experiment before you keep the myth going.Now granted buried might get a different result,as it would nor be subject to weather conditions.But a 1000 years? Hardly.

As I am unfamiliar with a supermarket called Planet ark-i will assume from it's name that it is a health food store, or alternative food store. In that event, I can only applaud them for not being hypocritical and supplying massive ammounts of 1000 year to break down plastic bags to it's customers. I am certain that if they have done as most stores, reverted to either paper bags or even better, canvas bags.

Pleas edo keep in mind that less than 50 years ago, plastic bags were totally unheard of. If it was easily worked around as part of every day shopping then, I see no reason as to why it should be a problem now. Just my two cents.

What makes plastic shopping bags worse than trash bags, whose formulas and structures resist tearing and breaking?  And there are millions more in the landfills.

plastic dose not dissolve fast. i heard it can stay its original shap for more than 1000 yrs.

its not just the plastic, its the tonnes of energy and resources that go into something that is going to be used once. A plastic bag is not soo bad if you reuse it. sometimes  think leaks) plastic is better to carry things in (in the rain!)

Overall we need to restrict our use of plastic bags as consumers by using rucksacks, cotton bags and plastic bags over and over!
