Question:

Planning Pool Party for almost 6 year old..?

I bought a blow up [big sized,NOT deep] shallow pool and since my 5 year old son is turning six august 1st, I figured why not let him have a birthday party. The party starts at 1:00 exactly and there are 10 boys coming over. I called the parents and asked if they would allow the pool and a sleepover, and they agreed. I have a den with a ton of games in it, so night won't be a problem. The problem is, I have no idea what to do. This is my first time with a birthday party for him because we've celebrated as a little family for the past 5 years, and a week ago he asked me to have a sleepover-party for him. All the kids that are coming slept-over here already so theres no " i want to go home" during the middle of the night. I really want this party to be a blast. The theme is Spiderman, I bought the decorations and a Spiderman pinata. There's no limited budget really, well nothing past 300 dollars. Can someone plan me a schedule? I am very lost. Maybe ideas for games as well

  1. SUN SCREEN

put out some water guns in the pool, that is a lot of kids and they are not going to stay in the pool for long before they start to chase each other around the yard

a game of football (nurf of course)

Pizza, corn dogs, and french fries, just the freezer ones, you don't have to order in

ice cream with toppings like nuts and syrups

but maybe plan to eat outside cos with that many boys some one is bound to start throwing food

don't forget all three spidy movies,

just leave one playing at all times cos not every one will want to do the same things at same times

popcorn and sodas or sugar free kool-aid if you plan to get any sleep at all

don't forget to have the camera charged and ready

Oh if you are not opposed to painting you could let them paint a spidy poster before they done indoors, that way they can wash off in the hose outside

make your lists and do have a semi plan ( just not too set , they will have their  own ideas also) you don't have to spend a lot of money to have a great and memorable party

OH and don't plan to try to handle it alone, you sound like a single dad, invite an uncle or a buddy to help chaperon.  you are still ti be the one in charge!

for breakfast just get four or five boxes of cereal; reeces puffs, pops, honey combs, frosted mini wheats, fruit loops, coco puffs, all big hits.  keep AM simple for yourself and be prepared for some cranky buds in the AM

  2. With all those boys and the age they are are, there is no such thing as a schedule, trust me!  :D

Swimming with take up some time.

Have the yard set up with balls to kick and toss.

How about Kick the Can?  Remember that game!

Set up an obsticle course, and get little medals and ribbons to give out.  Thats always fun!

Plenty of finger foods would be great, fruit trays are a hit with kids that age.

A Spiderman pinita is a great idea too.  Just be careful with swinging the bat. ;)

When it gets late, have them all sack out with movies (Spider Man of course!) and big bowls of popcorn.  Limit the drinks or they may be peeing the flooor. ;)

  3. Schedule

1:00 -1:10 / kids arrive ( make sure to monitor kids)

    1:10 -2:00 / Games(Pin the donkey tale, coloring, stamps)

2:00 -3:00 / pool!(make sure to be with them at ALL times)

3:00 -4:00 / Pinyata ( make sure the bat is light  ..safe..)

4:00 -5:00 /Hands on activity( make mugs, picture frame,)

5:00 -6:00 /Water balloon fight(  lots of balloons)

6:00 -7:0 /Dinner&cake( no knives) ( dinner could be pizza)

    7:00 -8:00 /Chill time (tv...games..talking)

8:00 -8:30/ Get ready for bed time(brush, P.J.'s, night light, story)

    Make sure each kid has

    - change of clothes

    - P.J's

    - tooth brush/paste

    - 2 towels

    -swimming suit

    - Jaket

Ask parents if kids have any allergies, medicine needs or if they wet the bed.

Have fun at the party :>

Also just let the kids have fun you don't  need to follow a scedual! :>

  4. Let them run around outside for a while, they can come in and have a snack then go back outside and into the pool. They will probably make there own fun but you can also put on a movie later in the day. Use the pinata and just let them have fun!

  5. Well, I have 3 boys myself. And I definently know how to plan a birthday party for your 5 year old. My son turned 6 about 2 months ago. So if you're having a pool party you should buy some fun pool toys. If you're only using the pool toys once, you don't want to buy expensive pool toys, because that would be a waste of money. So, they have a great selection at wal-mart and target. Maybe 2-6 dollars for every pool item. You have a scavenger hunt in your large yard. You should go out and buy small spiderman figures, and spiderman party favors and hide them all over the yard. But, if you think it will stir up jealousy between the other children forget about that idea. You should just let them go crazy. And maybe if you could, you could get a few spiderman movies. If they are too violent for the kids, they sell spiderman movies for kids 4-8 years old. You could maybe play a spiderman duck duck goose game. And for dinner you need to get cool spiderman plates and napkins. You could also get a spiderman board game. Here is a website I looked up on google for you-http://www.birthdaypartyideas.com/html/s...

It has ideas for a spiderman party. I really hope I could help and good luck!

  6. There's not a lot you can do about it now, but if the boys are sleeping over, I would not have started the party at 1:00 p.m.    Simply because you'll have to entertain the kids all afternoon, evening and the next morning.

I would request that the boys all wear a t-shirt with their swimming trunks and leave the t-shirt on, otherwise you'll be spending all afternoon rubbing in sunscreen and someone will still get a horrible sunburn.     Make sure that you have some good quality sunscreen.

I would go ahead and buy some pool toys.   Like those rings; some balls, plastic frogs.

I would buy water guns/toys so that the boys can run around and squirt each other.     I would probably also invest in a slip and slide or two so that that they play on those.    I don't think that the pool itself will keep the boys occupied that long (sorry).

Maybe rent a sno cone maker.    Kids love sno cones and they'll need a lot of drinks if they are outside playing.      You could buy a cheap one from Wal-Mart, they just seem to take forever.

I would set up one of those gazebo type tents so that the kids can get in out of the sun.

For dinner, you could have a hot dog roast outside with smores.    Or, order in pizza.   Then have th cake.

I'd have plenty of movies for the kids to watch.      After being outside all afternoon in the heat, the kids will get grumpy.

As for the schedule, I don't know that you really need one.    I mean, I'd have the slip and slide and pool ready at 1:00 p.m.  and let them just swim and play.   You never really know how long they're gonna be interested in something like that.     Plan on eating a 5:00 p.m.      I'd let them bust the pinata inside after dinner.    We usually have them bust the pinata and hurry and pick up the candy and put in a big bowl and then I divide it up later for them to take home.   This will help avoid any fighting or arguing or someone being sad because they didn't get any candy.
