Question:

Planning Trip To Rome?

My sister and I are planning a European Trip. We will be in Rome for 3 days and would like to have an itinerary planned for each day of sites to go see and we would like to do this independantly of any "group travel" agency. I think the important thing is that we plan everything in such an order that we can cluster site-seeing by location. Have any of you had any organized itineraries that you would be willing to share?

  1. Only 3 days? Uhm...

    1st day: Renaissance and Baroque.

Piazza Venezia, Piazza del Campidoglio, Via del Corso, Piazza S. Ignazio, Piazza di Pietra, Pantheon, S. Maria Minerva (Michelangelo statue inside), S. Ivo alla Sapienza (Palazzo della Sapienza), S. Luigi dei Francesi (with 3 of the most important Caravaggio's masterpieces), S. Agostino (Madonna di Caravaggio inside), Piazza Navona, S. Maria della Pace, Via dei Coronari, Castel S. Angelo, Via della Conciliazione, Piazza S. Pietro, S. Pietro (here there is a bus, the 64, that takes you from S. Pietro to Piazza Venezia and Stazione Termini).

    2nd day: Baroque Tridente.

Piazza Venezia, Via del Corso, Fontana di Trevi, Piazza Colonna, Piazza Montecitorio, Via del Corso, Via Condotti, Piazza di Spagna, Via del Babuino, Via Margutta, Piazza del Popolo, S. Maria del Popolo (two of the most important Caravaggio' masterpieces), Pincio, Villa borghese, Galleria Borghese, Via Veneto, Piazza Barberini (here you can take METRO UNDERGROUND A or B to return at your hotel).

3rd day: Area Archeologica dei Fori.

Piazza Venezia, Piazza del Campidoglio, Musei Capitolini, Colonna Traiana, Mercati di Traiano, Piazza Foro Romano, Palatino, Colosseo, Arco di Costantino, Via dei Fori Imperiali, Piazza Venezia.

ROME BY NIGHT: Via dei Coronari (at six pm!), Gianicolo, Trastevere (pub, pizza, restaurant), Campo de' Fiori (pub, disco).

Use google map: http://maps.google.it/maps (version "ibrida")

    or: http://www.tesoridiroma.net/luoghi_roma/... (version "ibrida")

    A map of Rome:

This is the ATAC site (roman bus)

    http://www.atac.roma.it/

Remember the 64 (Termini, Piazza Venezia, S. Pietro)

And this is the Met.Ro site (Metro Underground)

I suggest to use bus! Rome has only two underground lines because the subsoil is rich in archaeological sites and not suitable to be excavated.

This is a site for Roma pass card (museum)

The best guide is TCI (Touring Club Italiano)

    ENJOY :)))

  2. The best thing to do will be to buy a travel guide.  I used the Fodor's Gold Italy guide and Fodor's Rome small guide.  They include maps and walking tours that are absolutely fabulous.  This way you can see where everything is and plan accordingly.
