  1. Cajun food, it is mostly blackened and that symbolizes over the hill!

  2. cheeseball/crackers, chilli cheese dip,veggie tray,mini cheeseburgers,egg rolls

  3. Bruchetta is a really simple and easy idea, it doesn't take too long, and they're easy to make in bulk the day of.

Fresh veggies and dip are usually a crowd pleaser too.

I wouldn't go overboard on the sweets (at least from my knowledge, most people i know in their 50's are Trying their hardest to eat healthy) So healthy options might be smart.

Fresh shrimp and dip is also a great idea.

If you want something that's more hearty and filling, baking/or buying a hearty lasagna is a great route too.

To keep with the Italian theme, you could also have do a quick antipasto salad.

I have a ton of recipes too! I didn't know if you wanted them included, but send me a message/e-mail and I'll be sure to include them! :)

    I hope I could help

PS. If you do want to throw some sweets in there, fresh strawberry shortcake or chocolate covered strawberries are a fun/light summer treat!

I also have great drink ideas if needed.

  4. Get someone in to do the catering ... its so much less hassle. You can enjoy your fellas birthday with him then instead of worrying if everyone has eaten and enjoyed the food.

  5. How about a 50's soda shop.....have the guests make their own sundaes, shakes, etc.   Decorate in red & white stripes and highlight with black items (plates, plastic ware, balloons, etc).  Since it is a surprise....have the girls wear poodle skirts, etc and the guys blue jeans and rolled up tshirts.....Watch/Think GREASE!   Maybe the table decorations could be old 50's cars....either diecast or models.

  6. Regress to the days of yesteryear, when he was 20--What were his favorite foods??  30 years ago--Hot dogs, Maid-rites, pizza, chips, cheeseburgers, fondue (popular then, now becoming re-popular), of course, for us old geezers, a vegetable wheel of carrots, broccoli, celery, cauliflower, etc.  Use a 1970's theme from which to build --(Polyester leisure suits, stacked shoes, etc. for him & guests to dress)
