My friend is looking into planning a trip to Spain with a few days in Venice, Italy as well. Does anyone have any advice on how to get both around Spain and from Spain to Venice. Thank you.

  1. Plane! Try www.vueling.com I'm going to madrid then flying to rome and it cost me 42 euros one way! cheaper the a train fast and convinent! vueling flys direct from barcelona to venice

  2. Realistically, the easiest way to get from Spain to Venice is to fly.  While you could take a train, the time spent on a long overnight ride may not be the best option.  It will be economical, however.  Don't rent a car, because it is very expensive to rent a car in one country and return it in another.

As for traveling aroung Spain, it really depends on where you're going.  If you're visiting Madrid and Seville, then take the train.  If you plan on including Barcelona, consider a short flight.  If you're focusing on one region, then rent a car.  Roads are well-maintained, but distances are long and gas prices are high.  You don't want to drive from Granada to Barcelona, for example.

I know this is vague, but it would help to know more specifics.  Cheers!

  3. Plane or train is your best bet.

  4. I recommend renting a car to drive around Spain then flying to Venice. I have really enjoyed driving around Spain as you can get off the beaten track and see a lot of great scenery, Roman Ruins, smaller villages and towns, etc.
