Planning a road trip?

what are all the things that you need to do in order to have a successful road trip? like how to plan it out accordingly

I've taken many road trips throughout the states; as short as 1 week and as long as 4 weeks. Aside from having a dependable car and enough money for gas, I determine in advance how far I want to drive each day and book accommodations for each leg of the trip - there's nothing worse than driving around looking for a decent hotel/motel/campground. To cut costs, I bring a cooler and shop at grocery stores that have a great deli department; salad bar; and barbequed or fried chicken. Make sure you have water with you in the car and munchies. Bring paper towels and wetcloths (like handiwipes).  Take a GOOD road atlas. Read up on the places you will be travelling through. Burn an "on the road" CD with funky stuff like Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again" and the Eagles "Take it Easy", "Desperado" etc. If you plan to stay only one night, have a small pack/suitcase with just the necessities and leave the big suitcases in the car. Leave an itinerary with someone back home. Bring a cell phone. Have FUN!
