I plan on going sometime late next year. That way I have enough time to plan and comfortably save for the trip. I am shooting for being gone around 1 1/2-2 weeks. The trip needs to be reasonable as well, I don't want to spend a fortune. I for sure want to visit Hong Kong at some point during the trip. I was thinking maybe going to Shanghai, Hong Kong, and then Singapore. I love big cities and I am really into architecture and all the high rises and stuff like that. That is part of the reason these 3 cities stick out to me. Does anybody have any suggestions about places I should try to go or have any experience in these three cities?

  1. Malaysia and Indonesia are out of the equation. Singapore is a bridge away from Malaysia, just like the US-Canada border, so I think you should consider that as well. Shanghai is quite polluted. Unless you're a SWM and want to explore your sexuality, then Thailand is a must.

I'll be in Asia this October and I will be in Manila and Singapore. My personal favorite is Manila and the Philippines because people there speaks English and are really warm..... just as their world famous Boracay.

    I am a Canadian.

  2. i'd also recommend you to visit Thailand.

    in Bangkok, don't miss:

-Grand Palace & nearby Wat Po where you can see giant gold reclining buddha

-Chinatown (Chinese food are great! excellent for shopping)

-and further more shopping in Siam Paragon, MBK, Gaysorn Plaza, Lumpini Park and local markets

    - restaurants along the chaopraya river http://www.discovery-thailand.com/Down%2...

if you want to visit a nice beach, I'd recommend Koh Samui. It is one of the diver's haven. The warm, tropical waters and beautiful coral reefs off the island make it perfect for scuba diving. Go on the full day speedboat trip to Koh Ang Thong Marine Park. I enjoyed snorkeling, kayaking and trekking to emerald lake (amazing!). Ang Thong was the place that inspired the film ?The Beach? and is paradise on earth.  For ur accommodation, I strongly recommend Muang Samui Spa Resort http://www.discovery-thailand.com/Hotels...

The location was perfect with all shopping, bars and restaurants at your doorstep, and provided a tranquil and dreamy escape from the day-to-day world. It is also set on a more beautiful stretch of beach. The rooms themselves were large, stylish, clean and had all the special touches. The resort is well maintained, is filled with beautiful greenery, little bridges and a creek running thru it. We found that the staff were always friendly and attentitive. The breakfasts were also sensational. Have a nice trip.
