We would like to stay as close to the Parade route as possible. Since Southie can be a bit rough, can you recommend the safer areas and tell me which to avoid?

  1. Don't

stay in the Back Bay instead and take the T (Green Line Inbound  to Red Line Outbound) to Southie

  2. Try Cambridge.......Kendall Square is a good area (MIT) with good hotels and it's very convient to South Boston by subway; red line stop right there straight run to Broadway 10-15 minutes, and it's safe. Cheaper than Back Bay/Downtown but VERY close to both (couple of miles).

FYI: If anyone tries to get you to stay at the Roundhouse Suites Hotel on Mass Ave (it's not far from South Boston neighborhood) DON'T! The hotel is fine but it's not in a good/safe neighborhood.....stay away from the nearby Suisse Chalet also for same reason.

  3. I guess it depends what your plans are.  If the main event it the parade and you plan to spend most of your time in South Boston, it makes sense to stay close. There's a courtyard marriot fairly close to the parade route that should be fine - nothing fancy or spectacular, but reasonable.

If you have a few days in town and plan on hanging out in Boston, it might make more sense to stay downtown Boston and just take the subway to Southie on the day of the parade.  There are so many places to stay in Boston your choices are endless, I'd stay somewhere in the North End or Back Bay area of town - more to do than you can possible cram into one vacation!  Lots of Irish Pubs which will be hopping in the days leading up to St Patrick's Day.

    Have a great trip!

  4. Fanual Hall.......now thats a party

  5. The annual  St. Patrick's Day parade begins its route at the Broadway “T” station , heads east along the Broadway, and winds its way through the streets of South Boston, ending at the Andrew “T” station.

Both stations are on the “T” Red Line so it’s very easy to get to the parade without driving and parking, if you wish to stay a little farther away.

Here is a  link which lists hotels in the area of the parade:

The seaport area is perfectly safe...a new convention center was built there and it is growing and growing with all the amenities that a tourist would need.
