  1. Rome (S. Peter's, Colosseum, Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain, S. Ignazio, Pantheon, Campidoglio, Sistine Chapel, Foro Romano, Trastevere, Farnesina, Campo de' Fiori)

Florence (Duomo & battistero, Piazza Signoria, S. Maria Novella, S. Croce, Pitti gallery, Boboli)

Venice (Piaza S. Marco, Canal Grnde, Ca' Rezzonico, Ca' d'Oro, Accademia, S. Maria dei Frari, Guggenheim Museum, Ponte di Rialto)

Siena, S. Gimignano, Pisa, Naples, Capri, Portofino...

awesome site for visit to Italy.  I booked with them and it was incredible!

  3. Yes in Rome you can walk almost everywhere if your hotel is centrally located and also has the most "stuff" to see. There is plently to keep you occupied for six days, and I wouldn't say that about any other place I have been in Italy and that includes Florence and Venice. Rome also has excellent public transportation and there are several attractions close by -- Ostia, Tivoli, Hadrian's Villa, Pope's Villa that you can get to by bus.

  4. Well, I would say that Rome and Florence fit your bill. However, as it is your first trip and you will be with a 12yr I think Rome is really your best choice. All the main tourist attractions are within walking distance from one another. More important, I think Rome holds more sites that might interest a 12 year old boy like the Coliseum and the Forum - you know - ancient Rome, gladiators and stuff. Florence is sort of more "refined", where its beauty lies in the architecture, the museums and things like that. Of course, Rome has these things too, it's just that I think a pre-teen would find Rome more exiciting from his point of view. And, of course, Rome is simply magical!
