So say your engaged and you don't want anyone to know about it till the last minute. Then you realise you don't know anything about planning a wedding.

How do you plan a wedding? What do you need for a wedding? Any tips would be very much appreciated. Also any websites that I can get ideas or buy things from would be a great help. What is the best place to buy a wedding dress online? Please help =)

  1. Ok relax is the first thing you need to do next you need to figure out who you want to be married by. Are you or your fiance religious? etc. Then you need to pick the date and place of the ceremony book that and the reception somewhere close by. Once this is done all the major stuff is out of the way. Now we think about music would you prefer a band or DJ? Then there are the songs such as: when you walk down the isle, when you sign the marriage certificate, first dance, father daughter dance etc. Then there are you vows etc. Just have a think about the songs and the vows nothing has to be decided until a week before your wedding.

The dress... i got mine from www.ellaparkbridal.com it was perfect!

Also u may want to look at ideas for colour themes, look at flowers, choose your bridesmaids if your having any etc.

  3. I wouldn't buy a wedding dress online.  No way.  Do you really want to take a chance on spending your wedding day feeling self-conscious about wearing something that doesn't fit you properly, or doesn't hang the same way on you as it did on the model?

As to the wedding planning, if you're doing it all yourself, I suggest keeping it simple.  All you NEED is a place to have the wedding, a marriage license, and an officiant to marry you.  The rest is all optional.

My husband and I had only 10 guests.  We got married in an art gallery that agreed to let us in after hours, then walked to a coffee shop a couple blocks away, and then we took everyone out to dinner afterwards at our favourite restaurant, and ate a cake from the supermarket bakery (which was delicious.)  My mom arranged some flowers for the flower girls earlier in the day.

Some of the traditional things we dispensed with were decorating (the art gallery pretty much did that for us, since they were opening a new exhibit that day), a professional photographer, formal toasts, a caterer, a florist, matching bridesmaids and groomsmen, a DJ or band, bridal bouquet and garter throwing, wedding music, professional hairdos, a rehearsal, a guest book, theme colours, party favours, formal invitations, and a bar. (My husband did bring a bottle of sparkling wine to dinner though.)

  4. first decide on the when and where

once you have that decided you need

    a ceromony site

    a reception site

    food

    cake

    music

    flowers

etc ... just think about the last wedding you were at or watch tlc-they have wedding shows on and pick out your details

  5. I agree with the others. Do not buy a wedding dress online because it is a gamble. If you're looking for a dress and you're not exactly thrilled by the prices you have other options. Look for trunk shows coming to your area. They can be great sources for dresses.

As for the wedding you need to break it down into three categories. Reception, ceremony, vendors.

Decide how many people will have the honor of attending your day, how much you and your fiancee are willing to spend and then look at venues based on them fitting this criteria. Many cities publish a wedding magazine to help area brides find venues and vendors that fit their needs, you may want to look for one of those because it will often have the venue size and cost information summarized in one place.

Once you two decide on the place, you need to tackle decor. Many places already have someone onsite who can help you with decisions regarding linens and other details along those lines, feel free to ask when you visit if such help is available. Also you can ask if there are any vendors they work with or recommend. People who work together often are familiar with each other's rules, if any, and might save you some communication hassle in the long run.

I like www.theknot.com for wedding ideas and references locally, but there are several other wedding sites that offer additional assistance. I'm kinda a little walking dictionary of wedding stuff and if you really need help you could always ask me. Congratulations on your wedding and good luck!

  6. I can give you one tip, and this is from my experience with my daughter.  Try on as many dresses as you can.  They may look nice

in the catalogs, and magazines, but it's not the same as seeing how they look on you.  I got to go with her on some of the outings, and as a mom, I cherish the memories.

    God bless
