Planning graduation party. 10 points for the best advice. Thank you?

Sorry, English is my second language.

I want to plan the graduation party for MPA students. There are about 40 of us who graduate this May. It is going to be a little get together where we go to a restuarant order our own food/drink and chat :)

I will make a reservation to the restuarant and send invitation to all the graduate students. If they want to come to party -good, if they don't want to come-it is okay because we are adults who have full-time jobs and other responsibilities.

What do you think of this idea? I know it is not formal --should I add anything to construct the party? Thank you for your advice.

that is a good idea, but maybe you could liven things up a bit with a theme for the party?

Make the party during the time you would normally be in class. It is already a time everyone has gotten used to and probably still has open.

   Deliver the invites in person while playing some music that goes along with graduating or finishing a difficult task.  Be creative even a little devilish in your presentation. Continue this for the party and make sure you can have an area of the resturant to yourselves.  If not be kind to fellow patrons.

I would definitely put RSVP on the invitation.  That means you're asking people to tell you whether or not they are coming in advance. It will help with making the reservation too - i'm sure the restaurant wouldn't be happy if you reserved 40 seats and only 20 people showed up.

First, your English is perfect:)  and congratulations on getting your MBA:) .... It's a fine idea, and having it at a restaurant makes perfect sense.  But you DO need to get a pretty accurate "head-count" for making reservations.  Most restaurants have a separate room for larger parties ...  You might want to have a few simple decorations/centerpieces, just to make it a little more festive.  Maybe just some confetti in the school colors sprinkled on the table top, and ask the restaurant if they could use napkins in those colors too.  Have a guest book, so you'll be sure to get names/phone numbers and be able to keep in touch with everyone later.....

at a restaurant might be kind of hard. it might be better to have it at your house and have a caterer. it is stressful but the outcome is better because people have a better time and there is a lot more space to socialize. if you end up doing the restaurant, reserve the whole place! 40 people is a lot for a restaurant...
