  1. too many to name; just go to the official link below:

    www.myswitzerland.com

  2. I would skip Geneva and go to Lucerne instead.  It's prettier,

smaller, closer to Interlaken and Zurich.  Take a boat ride

on Lake Lucerne, go up to Pilatus on a clear day...

In Zurich, take the train to Uetliberg, hike a couple miles then

take the cable car down.  Go to Kilchberg to the Lindt

chocolate factory, to Schaffhausen to the Rhinefalls,

and if you are absolutely dying to run into Americans,

go to the Oliver Twist (it's a bar) in the Old Town.

  3. We spent 8 days in Switzerland in 2005.  Only one day in Zurich and 1/2 day in Geneva.  Interlaken was a good base for the surrounding areas.  Zurich and Geneva were nice, but we found the real gems to be Lucerne and Bern.  All cities are close by rail.  The website recommended above is really good.

Have a great trip, and go up the Jungfraujoch if you can when in Interlaken.

  4. I recommend Basel. Not as many people know Basel as the other great cities in Swiss, but it is a beautiful place. You should see at least one city each where German, Italian and French are spoken. It will help you appreciate the country's diversity.

  5. Six days is very little time for somewhere as interesting as Switzerland.

Zurich and Geneva are OK cities, but you should visit the places that make Switzerland famous.  It's not the cities.

Interlaken is a good start, and take the trip (expensive) to the Jungfraujoch.  Stay in Wengen if you can.

Visit Zermatt (below the Matterhorn).  It is a town where automobiles are prohibited.

If the weather is good, go to Leysin (above Aigle).  The view of the Rhone Valley and Mont Blanc is entrancing.  Have dinner at the restaurant Le Leysin.

The Gruyere cheese factory is not too far away.

The Chateau de Chillon is south of Geneva along the lake and is very interesing.

And so on........   Just enjoy being there!

  6. Hi, I am Swiss and out of my non - tourist view, I would recommend the following:

Visit Zurich but don't spend more than 1 day there. Do what the suggestions are, things such as Uetliberg etc.

Don't go to Basel, it is a city full of drugs and chemistry, nothing really besides the Basel Zoo but I think you don't come to Switzerland to see animals in a cage.

Visit Lucern and Interlaken as suggested. If you have some time, go and see Montreaux and Zermatt if possible (Take a wallet full of money with you if you are going to Zermatt, it is very expensive but super beautiful!).

Also, visit the North East of Switzerland. Areas like Arbon, Romanshorn, maybe take the ferry from Romanshorn to Friedrichshafen, it is a very nice ride. Have a coffee in Friedrichshaven on one of the many restaurants on the lake, then go back by driving around the lake via Bregenz in Austria, maybe also stop by in Liechtenstein.

    Have fun,

    Michel
