Question:

Planning my first trip to Italy- please help!?

My friend and I are thinking of visiting Italy next year. We would be staying with a friend who lives in Montecatini Terme, about 45 min NE of Florence.

What should I plan to see when I'm there? Is it easy to travel to other cities, like Rome or Milan?

How many days should I plan to stay?

How much in US dollars should I plan to save for spending? (Besides airfare and lodging)

Any info you have would be great!

  1. If you go to Montecatini don't forget to take thermal baths there! Anyway, a trip to Rome takes about a couple of hours, and please consider that it takes at least one week to visit the eternal city, and for one week you need more or less 400 euro (sorry but I can't help with US dollars!) for sightseeing, shopping, eating out and so on.

    I hope I helped you!

  2. Beautiful idea!!!!!

Tuscany is all worth visiting!Don' forget to visit Florence, Pisa,

Siena, Lucca to name the best known....and of course Rome, where you can easily go to by train. It takes around 3 hours. As regards the days..the more you stay, the more you will enjoy my beautiful country:-)

I'm from Gaeta between Naples and Rome!

  3. There is a train station in Montecatini Terme, so it's very easy to get around Italy from there. Stay as long as you can - you won't run out of things to see or do. From Montecatini, Florence is obvious, but Pisa & Lucca, Siena, San Gimignano & Volterra, Viareggio (beach), and Cinque Terre are all easily accessible. There are lots of festivals throughout the year all over Italy. If you're here in October/November, the duck races or the truffle festival in San Miniato would be close and interesting. Spending money depends on exactly what you want to spend on, and how long you're here for. You can eat pretty well here for reasonable amounts, but there are places that are very expensive. One place that's interesting - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnew... You have to book at least three weeks in advance to allow time for the security screening.

  4. You can find a lot of nice places over there, even without moving a lot. Anyway you should make a round in toscana, firenze, pisa SIENA!!!!!!!!!, livorno and especially the area near there, remember Casale Marittimo.

About the money it depends from your way of spending/saving money, and if you are not from italy and you don't know where to go.

have fun, maybe we'll meet there!!! i've got an uncle near there

    ; )
