  1. you should know that violin is one of the hard musical instrument to play because you as a musician is the one who will make the tones and must be exact, but it can be practiced correctly,if the teacher puts tape or markings on the fingerboard for the right finger positions,

since you have note reading experience it'll be quite easy for you to excel.

parts of the violin, the G D A E tones (those are the right tones of the four strings) proper way of using the violin, proper posture while playing the violin, handling of the bow.

  2. You'll need to get a good teacher to teach you how to bow. I'm assuming you've been playing classical guitar with a metronome--if not you'll need to learn how to use one.

Guitar is usually transposed up one octave, where violin is played as written. In addition, you'll have to develop your ear as there are no frets on the violin to regulate your pitch and your finger being off the right place by as little as a millimeter means you will be playing the wrong note.

You'll also have to learn about vibrato and how to produce it, and harmonics and how to produce them.

Most importantly, though, you'll have to learn to hold the violin without strain on your neck, arm and shoulder. If you have any tension you could develop RSI and that will effectively end your playing. Try a number of different shoulder and chin rests to find what will let you hold the instrument for long periods of time just being able to balance it rather than hold it in place with your chin. Also find a comfortable way to hold it so that you can play without looking at the fingerboard and without twisting your arm.

  3. On this webpage you can find the basics:

It's best though, to find a good teacher if you want to study it seriously.

    Good luck.
