Right now I live in the United States, I was born and raised here, I have nothing on any criminal records, and have no health problems. I have a friend in Australia who just got citizenship who claims they can "sponsor" me while I'm there on my working visa. (I'm still getting all the details straigtened out.)

My question is;

If I move to Australia, on a working visa, will I eventually be able to claim citizenship?

If I claim citizenship in Australia, will I loose citizenship in the US?

Sorry if this confused anyone.

  1. In Australia we have a status called a permanent resident, whereby as I understand it you retain your American citizenship, but get voting rights, access to welfare, etc,etc.

    Check it on the Aust. government website.
