Planning to become a vegatarian?

Lately I've been thinking about becoming a vegetarian, and i've been wanting to become one, tho i don't know much about it. The basic stuff that i know is that not to eat meat, obviously, and to support animal rights. Is that right? My question is, what is a vegatarian, and how do i become one? And please don't give me an article from wikipedia and such. Thanks.

  1. Kudos to you for considering a lifestyle that will help the Earth and the animals that inhabit it. Here are a few tips that I wish I would have known before I got started:

1- Do plenty of research. Find out the foods that you can eat. The easiest way to do this is to stop by your library and pick up some vegetarian cookbooks. Not only are you able to peruse recipes to see what types of foods you can eat, but they usually have good nutrition guides in the front. They will give you a veggie's food pyramid, tell you what staples to stock in your pantry and so on. Hopefully you will find modifications for recipes that you already like. You might just want to do a one-week trial period to see if it's for you.

2- Decide if you want to stop eating meat all at once or gradually. Some people can do it overnight and others cannot. Don't feel pressure to do it in one fell swoop. If you were raised eating meat, it's sometimes hard to "reprogram" your eating habits. Do what's comfortable for you at your own pace.

3- Eat a variety of foods. Many new veggies tank up on cheese pizza, potatoes, pasta, grilled cheese, cereal, PB&J and so on. While that food is okay to have in moderation, too many starches and too much diary is not good. Eat fresh fruit, fresh veggies, beans, legumes and whole grains. Make sure those componenets are the main things on your plate at meal time.

4- Do some soul-searching and know *why* you want to go veg. Just to fair warn you: if you live in an area that doesn't have a large veg population, you may be asked a ton of questions (some intelligent, some ignorant). It's important to know why you are doing it if someone were to ask you. Also, sometimes people might make fun of you. Just being secure in your convictions will help you ignore the immaturity and be a bigger person.

5- It's okay to backslide. If you give in to a craving when you first start, it's totally normal. It's not the end of the world and you should not beat yourself up. Just start again and understand that we are all human.

    :-)

I hope that helps - good luck to you and welcome to the world of veg!

ps-  You don't have to be an animal rights supporter to be a vegetarian. Some veggie are...but others do it for health reasons, religious reasons, environmental reasons, etc. Like I stated before, you need to find out what makes *you* tick. You don't have to ascribe to certain ideas just b/c others do.

  2. well its wen u give up meat

u also cant eat jello or marshmellows

u hav 2 pay attention to ingredience cuz some stuff like marshellows has pig lard in it

just watch labels and u no no meat stand up 4 animals

  3. i am a vegatarian.people who eat meat often are becoming fat and always have to be with diet that means no cake and other fun stuff.but a vegatarian is free to that stuff because some food contais some to reduce fat .more natrual.some people get ill when they eat fish because some come from pollouted watar. and brid flu some times you have to wait months untill its over. in the mean time what to do.did you now arbaramr lincon (us pridsent)gave up meat.

  4. Focus on action, not status.

Don't try to have the label "vegetarian," but simply refrain from eating meat.  Supporting animal rights isn't a requirement, but it's appreciated.

How many days can you go?

    Do you have the will?

Just be sure to take a B-vitamin supplement.

You should find after a while you'll be to eat more and more often- meat takes a while to digest.

People will ask you where you get your protein.  You probably get it the same way cows and chickens do, by eating grains and vegetables.
