  1. Yes, that is a good time to travel to HCM City, cuz the weather is not hot , not cold. and the city is so excited in the end of the year

  2. It's a good time but not the best time. The best is a round late Jan early Feb before Tet ,the Vietnamese new year(Feb 18).The weather is cool and everybody is in good spirit.Lots of flowers and events held this time.

Nha Trang is OK but Mui Ne in Phan Thiet( 1 hour from Nha Trang and 4 from Saigon) is a lot better, less crowded, beautiful beaches,18 hole golf course designed by Nick Faldo by the ocean.

Also visit Dalat in the highlands (The French founded 100 years ago to use as R&R.) The people are friendly but the kids need to have shots such as Hep A,typhoid.Bring their digital cameras I'm sure they will take lots of pictures.

When crossing the streets, walk slow and with an angle,do not make sudden moves as the bikes will avoid you. Bon voyage.

  3. I gotta agree with the guy above me. Dec is a good time to go. I went back the 1st time myslef last Dec, the 17th. The flight took over 24 hours but it's worth it.

Mui Ne is so much better than Nha Trang though. The beaches are more clean and beautiful. You should really check it out!

  4. December is the BEST time to go vietnam. the weather is just perrrrfect. theres christmas to enjoy and the tet preperations if its around that time.

i agree with Novice, about the baby/child friendly thing it depends on where your going.

  5. Weatherwise, it is a good time, as it would be a bit cooler, unlike in the summer when it could be very humid.

For your kids, it depends on where you stay actually.  Saigon (aka HCM City) is actually a better destination for adult tourists than for children.  It has busy/chaotic streets and traffics, constantly filled with noise, so some kids from western countries might not enjoy that much (e.g. when I took my kids there the first time, they had so much trouble crossing the streets.)

In addition, most entertainments are for adults, e.g. cafe, clubs, sightseeing places.  There are a few places for kids, e.g. Water World; however, they cannot even be compared to your local water parks (in most US cities.)  There are not many places for young babies/kids.  Only the 5-star hotels there have babysitting services.

During last summer, however, we did take our kids (aged 10 and 5) there and stayed at Sheraton Saigon Hotel, and they enjoyed the swimming pool and the food.  We also took them on short trip to Nha Trang (Vin Pearl) and Da Nang, where beaches were beautiful.  So in the end, it was a wonderful trip for all of them.  So I would recommend you to do the same thing: spend a few days in Saigon, and if your family doesn't enjoy things, take short flights to Nha Trang ($60-$80 1-hr round-trip) where there are beautiful beaches and open space for the kids to enjoy.

    Have fun!

  6. Yes it is a fine place to go.  Americans and all people are treated well there.

I havent met more nicer people ever in my travels.

It will be hot in december, but not rainy. So it is a good time to go.
