  1. well, you can go on http://www.ratp.com/, there is an international party, so you can have a look there before to go, it's about the "metro", but they also give you some good tips for Paris.

I suggest as well, if you're under 26 to buy a "ticket jeune"

here, you have as well, the website for the suburbs train http://idf.sncf.com/web/site/lang/en

    http://idf.sncf.com/web/site/accueil/gui...

-> here you have all the kind of ticket, for Paris it's zone 1-2

-> mobilis ticket can be interesting as well

I advise youfor Sunday to take the metro instead of the bus, as here aren't many of them.

When you're in the center, there is a tourism office, closed to the Louvre, Pyramide station (line 7, the pink one), where you can get free map of Paris. If you're going to Paris the 1st sunday of the month, museum are free.

  2. www.gotoday.com and hotel.com vacations work well.

Also Paris for Dummies and Frommers Paris were my Bibles when I went. But them used on amazon or get them from the local library. Totally worth the money!

  3. cheap hotels

  4. My advice is go to London, the French are @ssholes.

  5. Paris is a wonderful city to visit. Its compact, easy to get around, and provides very good value.

Don't concern yourself with package deals. Its easy for find accommodation and its usually easier and cheaper to arrange your own sightseeing.

I assume that you want to keep costs down. My suggestions are based on that assumption.

    Hotels:

    Hotel St.  Andre des Artes

66, rue St. Andre des Artes (6th)

    tel:01 43 26 96 16

    email:hsaintand@wannado.fr

66 euros single 85 euros double (breakfast included)

    Hotel de Nesle

    7 rue de Nesle (6th)

    Hotel Esmeralda

    4 rue St-Julien-le-Pauvre (5th)

Transportation: Paris is compact and, if the weather is good, walking is often the best way to get around.

The Metro is justly famous and the bus system is excellant. the only problem is that most public transportation stops at around midnight. There is a system of night buses but this is very limited compared to day time options.

If you do like to walk then my opinion is that buying passes for the public transport is not cost effective. While even an avid walker like myself will want to take the metro once or twice a day the cost of a pass isn't justified by such low usage. Instead just buy a "carnet" of 10 tickets which you can use as needed.
