Plans for the Breeders’ Cup laid out for Saturday week at Churchill Downs
The level of curiosity that the Breeders’ Cup at Churchill Downs has generated is nearing its climax as the Saturday week is just round the corner. The lineup for the racing track has already been selected and confirmed. It is a collection with steaming
talent and has entries that are known for winning many Group 1 races already.
One of the most deserving candidates for this race is the five-year-old Australian superstar So You Think who is being tested for the Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday week and is under charge A P O’Brien.
So You Think has raced seven times this season out of which he has won four races. The High Chaparral European Breeders Fund Mooresbridge Stakes Group 3 at Curragh on 2nd May, the Tattersalls Gold Cup Group 1 at the Curragh again on 22nd
May, Coral-Eclipse Group 1 and on 3rd September it was the Red Mills Irish Champion Stakes Group 1 at Leopardstown.
Another entry from A P O’Brien’s stable is Await The Dawn who will be contesting for the Breeders’ Cup Turf. The four-year-old colt has run three times and has won twice. First at the Betfred Huxley Stakes Group 3 on 5th May at Chester and the
next one was the Hardwicke Stakes Group 2 on 18th June at Ascot.
Another remarkable entry for the event is Richard Hannon’s Strong Suit for the Breeders’ Cup Mile. The three-year-old, Rahy and Helwa’s colt has graced the tracks five times this season till yet. Out of these five runs, three were victories.
On 15th June it was the Jersey Stakes Group 3 at Ascot then the Lennox Stakes Group 2 on 26th July at Goodwood and then most recently it was the Challenge Stakes Group 2 at Newmarket on 8th October. Strong Suit’s victory
in the Cup will entitle him for a hat trick as his last two attempts have been successes.
F Head’s Goldikova is another selection for the Breeders’ Cup Mile and tends to be a potential threat as she has already won this title thrice before but her recent performance has put a question mark on the probability of success this time.
Out of the five times that Goldikova raced this year, it was only twice that she won. On 22nd May it was the Prix D’Ispahan Group 1 at Longchamp and the next one was the Prix Rothschild Group 1 on 31st July at Deauville.
A P O’Brien’s entry for the Filly And Mare Turf is the three-year-old Misty For Me. She has won in two out of her five starts. The first race that she won was the Etihad Airways Irish 1000 Guineas Group 1 on 22nd May at Curragh. Misty For Me’s
second attempt that turned out to be a success was the Stobart Ireland Pretty Polly Stakes Group 1on 25th May at Curragh.
Sir Henry Cecil’s other representation during the event would be Midday for the Filly And Mare Turf. The five-year-old mare could win two of her six starts this season. Initially it was the Middleton Stakes Group 2 on 12th May at York that Midday
won and later on 30th July she was victorious at the Nassau Stakes British Champions’ Series at Goodwood.
The rest of the contenders include Sea Moon, Nahrain, Caspar Netscher. Zoffany, Daddy Long Legs, Learn and Wrote and Crusade while Up and Homecoming Queen are also the expected to participate in the event.
