Hi.  This is a stab, but you may be speaking of "sweet autumn clematis", or "Virgin's bower",  which is blooming now in my area.  The link below gives pictures and some discussion.

Primer20 hit it dead on....they're blooming everywhere in my area also ...I find them very fragrant.
