  1. The wood is made up of cellulse and lignin which is basically a carbohydrate. This on burning releases carbondioxide and water vapour and heat energy.

    wood a complex carbohydrate + oxygen---> CO2 +H2O + ashes and heat. The carbon dioxide and water go off as gases into the air. The ashes are what is left of the mineral matter that does not burn. In the smoke is also particles of partially burned wood and ash.
