Plant reproduction (Sporophytes)?

A sporophyte is a brownish color. Most sporophytes lack chlorophyll. What does this informationsay about how sporophytes obtain enery it needs to survive?

Most large trees are sporophytes.  Where did you get this information from?  In any case if the leaf color is brown, yellow or red, chlorophyll is still there.
