  1. go eco complete or flourite (flourite is a pain though to rinse) If you have high lighting and co2 gravel would be a disaster.

Know how to use liquid ferts aswell

Tell us your excact lighting as saying good means nothing.

Passable lighting to me would be a 1x24 or a 2x24 Hagen t5HO

for that tank as t5HO has a 1.6 multiplier on WPG.

SO a 1x24 would be about 1.9 wpg of good intense light to grow medium light plants no problem.

You don't need excellent filtration for a planted tank.

What you do need is a filter that doesn't upset the surface of the water so you don't lose all your co2 gas.

heres a good site for plants...

  2. You can keep them in gravel if you fertilize them with root tablets every now and then.

It's up to you as to what plants you want to keep. Here's a plant finder based on certain requirements, such as lighting or difficulty: http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/forum...

You can choose plants based on how tall they get, their lighting requirements, etc.

But you generally want to place shorter plants in the front, and smaller plants in the back.

  3. If you want to see your fish put the plants in the back, but push them toward the front of the tank slightly so they have some privacy. Gravel is fine to put in the tank.

  4. What kind of plants you keep depends on the fish in the aquarium, so ask the fish experts at your pet store. Whether you put gravel or soil in the tank depends on fish and plants, so, once again, ask the pet store people. When planting them, place the tallest in the back, mid-height in the middle, and short ones in the front. Good luck!
