Planteur to crush the competition in the Sky Bet York Stakes by swinging back in form
The Group 2 Sky Bet York Stakes has pulled together a line-up that has the winners and place holders of multiple Group company. Eleven three-year and above runners will compete over a mile, two furlongs and eighty-eight yards on Saturday, 28th
July at York. There is quite a hand full of contestants in the field today who can clean their hands at the £56,710 prize money.
The 7 to 2 entry for the race, Planteur, takes a decisive competitive edge over the participants today as his last seven outings have been to Group 1 races. His participation in them dates back to the previous season, as in 2012 the bay horse has raced only
thrice. The rankings in those attempts are not exactly impressive but they are not even completely devastating for the connections.
Danehill Dancer’s horse ended third in the first two races of the season which indicates his ability to deliver consistency even if for not for long term.
The five-year-old bay horse cracked open the new season with the Group 1 Dubai World Cup Sponsored By Emirates Airline on 31st March, 2012 at the Meydan race course over a mile and two furlongs.
The winner and the runner-up of the race were from the stables of Mahmood Al Zarooni; Monterosso and Capponi.
Riding with Ryan Moore, Marco Botti’s under charge took his time to settle with the pace and held back on speed initially. However, by the time the last two furlongs remained, the five-year-old headed front and finished the closest to the leading pair.
So You Think, the favourite entry for the race, settled fourth.
The very stop for the bay horse out of mare, Plante Rare, was in the Group 1 Prix D’Ispahan on 27th May, 2012 at Longchamp over a mile and a furlong. Golden Lilac won the race by the margin of ¾ of a length. Settling right behind as the runner-up
was, Cirrus Des Aigles.
The Irish bay horse was paired with jockey, Christophe Soumillon, and the two parked in the third slot behind the winner.
The catastrophic blow for the five-year-old was when he finished seventh in the Group 1 150th Anniversary Of Prince Of Wales’s Stakes (British Champions Series) on 20th June, 2012 at Ascot.
The race today is giving him the chance for redemption and to ride with jockey, Adam Kirby. The duo will take off from the fifth stall.
