Planting a container plant?

Question

Long story short, I bought 3 bareroot roses this spring and 1 died and I want to put something in its place until the replacement comes (end of August). Is it okay to stick a plant in the ground while it is still in the container temporarily so i dont have a bare spot in my garden? The plant is much smaller than the pot it is in and there is no concern about the roots breaking through the pot.

Sure...Just be careful that you do plant the plant eventually. Since it is in the pot it may require different water amounts the the rest of your plants in the area.

It is perfectly OK to do this. Sure the roots of your potted plant may grow through the base of the pot and even grow into the ground. When you remove the pot from the ground, and if the roots are through the bottom, just pull it out. If you then want to plant it out just cut the excess roots and remove the plant. Good luck

It should do just fine temporarily, but be sure to make sure it doesn't dry out- containers need more frequent watering.
