1. If you plant stuff, it takes in more carbon dioxide, which is released by factories and cars. If plants are breathing it in, there is less in the environment. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the "stuff" released by factories and it goes into the atmosphere and it keeps the sun's heat in. (you probably already know this b/c you are taking that class, but just wanted my answer to be thorough)

  2. Basically, plants breathe in the bad stuff (or the stuff that we consider 'bad') and breathe out the good stuff. So they help filter the air. If you want a more scientific explaination, one of the answers before mine has a good explaination.

  3. Plants take CO2 from the atmosphere during photosynthesis (when they make sugars in the leaves). They then give off oxygen (which we need) and water vapor. They also cool the environment during this process. Plants can also cool areas by helping to create temperature differences, causing air currents or movements. This is why large parking lots should have 'islands' of green. Otherwise the pavement would get hot - heat the air and it would all just sit there being hot. If there are air currents then the air moves and will feel cooler and will be cooler.

  4. I'm a horticulture student currently in Community College of Allegheny County-South Campus.

Yes. Planting a tree helps conserve the environment because trees have its job to take out the carbon oxide and releases the fresh oxygen from its leaf. Trees does breath too, so as human, but trees does it in the opposite way. Trees breathes CO2 and releases the O2, which human breathes. If we plant a whole acre of trees, just one acre full of trees, it will take out about 200 cu ft of CO2 by itself (that's not a lot to take out CO2). If you replaces the city of Pittsburgh into full of trees, it would take out about half of the Pittsburgh's pollution, thus it will help save the environment. If you replaces New York City into the same size of the city's acre with trees, it will take out 75% of the city's pollution, thus it still will save the environment. If you replace San Francisco with trees, the same way I gives examples in the two other cities, it will boost saving the environment by 200% and will take out 120% of the pollution that San Francisco emits.

Plants does it job and we, as human, have to take care of the environment by planting new plants. Without planting new plants, we wouldn't be able to survive way past the year of 3000 AD.

  5. The plants take in CO2 and give u back O2.
