Planting vegetable garden?

Question

I'm in FL. I would like to start a vegetable garden in my backyard. Can anyone suggest a good book to me (or even a website) that breaks it down to me step by step. I'm a novice.

Hi:

I am a landscaper and designer. One of the first things you need to do is to come up with an overall plan. You plan - you prep - and you plant. I will link you to the the plan-prep-plant page of my website. This is a very simple method on doing any type of a garden.

In Florida it is warm now, so be sure once you plant, you get on a good watering schedule. I recommend to my clients to first fill any weeds or grass where the garden area is going to be. You can purchase a weed killer. Apply it and wait a few days or up to a week, as you want all the weed's root systems to be dead. If you have a large enough area, til the area over a few times. Your goal is to work the dirt. Know what vegetables you want to plant.  You can also think about planting some herbs with your vegetables. I will link you to the spices and herb section of my website. There may be some additional information that you could use.  

I will also link you to the garden project section as there is a page on vegetable gardens that may give you some ideas. I will also link you to the site map, as this page has everything that is on the website. There are many articles, tips and techniques that should help you with your vegetable garden. TILL  IT TO HOW  EVER U WANT IT BIG OR SMALL...... GET SOME PEAT MOSS MIX IT WELL WITH THE SOIL.. IF U HAVE A HOE  TURN THE SHARP TO THE SIDE  MAKE A LINE IN THE SOIL STRAIGHT  AS U CAN   GET UR VEGGIES "SEEDS" SPREAD THEM ALONG IN THE GROOVE  COVER THEM UP PACK IT DOWN HARD. WATER UR GARDEN SOON AS UR DONE  . U SHOULD NAME THE ROWS SO U KNOW WAT THEY ARE..

To assist with your garden plan you may want to go to your County Agricultural Agent and they may have flyers about what will grow in your area, etc.  You may have better luck growing things in the winter in Florida.  I was just thinking that it may give you a better idea of just how big you want this first garden.
