I want to get some plants for my aquariums. Which are the best to buy for my guppies, mollies, and platys. No moss, though. Where should I buy them?

  1. seaweed, fake plants

buy at: petco., petland discounts, purina, etc.

you could get really good ones at specialized fish only sotres too

  2. Java fern, onion plants, and swords will be the best. I would try your local pet store for the plants. I bought some at Petsmart that rotted within a week after buying it.

  3. It depends on your lighting. If you have less than 2 watts per gallon you would be best choosing plants that can tolerate low light. Anubias, java fern, and hygrophila would be good. If you have more lighting you have a lot more choices. Just be sure to get plants that are true aquatic species. The Petco and Petsmart in my area both sell some plants that don't actually survive underwater and will just die and rot.

  4. Along with Anubias, Java Fern, and Hygro species, most Swords, lilies, Aponogetons, Crypts, Bacopa, Banana Plants, Onion Plants, and Water Sprite would be very good choices.  Most pet stores sell Onion Plants, lilies, and Aponogetons as bulbs, and should have Swords and some others in their tanks.  Others are a bit more difficult to find, but shouldn't be impossible.  Flip through the phone book and call pet (fish specialty is best) stores to check if they have a good assortment of plants.
