  1. LCD is best upto 40' inches, anything over Plasma

  2. definitely LCD is the way to go and make sure you can connect a computer to.

  3. Lcd is tons better than plasma but blu ray is even better

  4. Don't go near a plasma!

LCD is the way to go.

Ive 5 of a family who have had numerous TVs and appear to compete to "Who has the latest"

and LCD wins hands down every time.

  5. lcd they last longer plasmas have a life span of bout 5 years

  6. Depends on what you are going to be watching. You should read this site first before buying any plasma or lcd tv:

    To summarise though:

CRTs were and are fine for normal SD content.

LCDs are better suited up until around 37"- 42".

Plasmas are great for 42" or more.

This is the general quick rule and obviously personal circumstance and more in depth reading will explain why this is not always the case. However, one of the most important things to watch out for is screen resolution and contrast ratio. Don't spend your money on a Full HD tv is you aren't watching HD content, and make sure you get a tv with a good contrast ratio (More than 5000:1).

    Hope that helps!

  7. If your looking to purchase a plasma screen take a look at this link panasonic 502 plasma for only £425 on offer until end of June.

  8. Unless you're desparate for space, get a good 2nd hand CRT: The picture will knock spots off an LCD or plasma & you don't get the delay between picture & sound. Just picked up a £2000 Toshiba 32" 5.1 for £10!!

  9. lcd

  10. Firstly, FORGET  about CRT sets; they're becoming increasingly harder to find parts for. Save for a few VERY specialised applications (medicine and critical broadcast monitoring) they're right up there with the Nipokow Disc! (and if you don't know 'wot one of dem iz' Yahoo it!)

Personally my money's on LCD. The technology's well proven and the key long term problems are likely to be with the backlights. i.e resolvable.... Plasmas are better than they used to be, and for some applications preferable. But for domestic use I'd go for LCD.

The "delay between picture & sound" has NOTHING to do with the display technology. That's down to the receiver (freeview box or whatever) and the set up.  JG picked up the '£2K' JVC for £10 because it's scrap! Ancient scrap at that! Can't give the d**n things away. What's more they burn about 5 times the power of an comparable LCD!

I personally own and run a leading TV production company and have been working in TV for almost 30 years. I currently have access to just  three CRT sets. One's a 1971 Black and White Shibaden I've had since I was a kid and haven't the heart to part with  (I keep it in me lock-up!). Another's the ageing Sony 14" in my kid's bedroom and the third's a Grade 1 broadcast HD monitor.... Sadly, my £500 LCD telly from Makro subjectively "knocks spots" off it...  Actually the £120 LCD monitor I'm working on just now gives it a fair run for it's money.... RIP CRT!

We no longer own a single Plasma; having disposed of the last of them before they required re-gassing! Again; a technology that's being sucked into the vortex of ancient history!

EARLY LCD sets were dogged by various issues..And half a decade ago I would have said your friend's advice was sound. But today? Nawwwww.....

Incidentally ...Bails.... LCD and Blue Ray are UNRELATED.....

One's a type of display, the other's a High definition DVD format...    It's like comparing cats to wooly blankets! You could play a Blu Ray disc back on a CRT, Plasma, OR LCD so long as it was designed to cope with the signal....

Buy the set that looks best to your eyes!

  11. I suggest an LCD which are very efficient. With an LCD you can save money on electricity while Plasma is a heavy electricity consumer.
