Question:

Plasma tv?

I am thinking about getting a new plasma tv and am wondering if playing my 360 on it will hurt the screen. I have heard that images can be burned into the picture and don't want to spend a bunch of money and ruin the tv.

  1. I wouldn't worry. I've never heard of that happening before. Chances are that the plasma tv won't get hurt by the Xbox 360. It is safe to buy that plasma.

  2. If you plan to play your 360 a lot, I would get an LCD.

Yes, plasma have improved, but the first 1,000 hours are still critical.

I prefer plasma for picture quality - although the new 10-bit LCDs are getting very close - but the danger is still there.

The white wash is no guarantee and frequent use of white wash will reduce the life of your panel.

  3. Hey, i work in a electric shop, and we sell plasmas and LCDs everyday!

To be honest there is nothing wrong with modern plasmas, as many brands such as LG or Philips have installed software in them called 'whitewash (google this and it might help you) which simply displays a white screen and will remove any damage you may have caused with displaying a repetitive picture or logo (e.g. sky logo) for a long period of time (and i mean a long period, e.g. talking well over 12hrs)!

To date, the only modern downfall of plasma is, if you have young kids running around your house, plasmas tend to emit a large amount of heat and the screen can become very hot (when on for a long, long period of time again) and small children could easily burn themselves if touched!

With LCDs, the bigger you buy, the further back you have too sit to view the picture to its bestest quality! UNLIKE a plasma, so you could sit a foot away from a 50" and still see no glitch in the picture quality!

Just remember, you can buy a 42" plasma for similar money to a 37" LCD television!
