What is the difference between a plasma and an LCD tv? Is one better than the other? Will one last longer than the other? Thanks for your help. Its time for me to buy a new one I don't want to make a mistake with the high prices they charge.

  1. Plasma screens typically have a wider viewing angle, LCD's are much lighter in wieght. My eyes cannot see any difference in the quality of the two different screens.

  2. just worry about this, if you are thinking about buying a tv that is bigger than 42 inches than buy an PLASMA but if you are thinking smaller buy an LCD. Don't get swindled into buying a 50 inch lcd that is 5000 $$ they are just taking advantage of you.

  3. I googled it and got quite a few links.

Each one has pros and cons. It's up to you to decide! Hope this helps!

  4. I prefer LCD over Plasma

Plasmas have a slightly richer look but have a higher failure rate.

My 52 inch LCD is great. It is a SONY Bravia V series and was on sale for $1900.

It weighs only 74 pounds and is 4.5 inches thick (very slim line)

Best of all it has a 25,000:1 contrast ratio

My only regret is that I didn't want to spend the extra money for the 120 Hz refresh (W series and up) so I have a 60Hz. Sony's processor technology makes this virtually a moot point though.

  5. Plasma TV's have a hard screen.

LCD TV's have a screen like a laptop.

Plasma TV's are energy INefficient (uses MORE power)

LCD TV's are energy efficient (uses LESS power)

Plasma TV's pixels burn easily. (you'll see the NBC logo even when it's off for about 5 minutes)

    LCD TV's don't.

Plasma TV's get hot very quickly.

    LCD TV's take time.

Plasma TV's are NOT recommend for game use (PS3, XBOX 360, Wii, Super Nintendo[^_^]).

LCD TV's can be used for anything (including game use).

Plasma TV's never go below 32".

    LCD TV's go any size.

    Plasma TV's are HEAVY!

    LCD TV's are fairly heavy.

Plasma TV's are affected by high altitude. (living on hills, high elevations, placing them mounted so high)

LCD TV's are not affected by high altitude.

Even though plasma TV's are somewhat cheaper than LCD's, it's still not worth getting a plasma TV.

I would recommend LCD TV's FOR SURE!!!!!!!

    I hope this helps. ^_^
